Apartment fire under investigation

3 adults and 1 child have displaced

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - The Newport News Fire Department responded to an apartment fire in the 100 block of Motoka Drive, Wednesday night.

Crews arrived at approximately 8:04 p.m. to find smoke and flames shooting from the rear of the apartment building.

Fire officials tells WAVY.com that the fire quickly spread to an adjacent apartment and to the second floor of the building.

Crews did a search for victims, and found none. Crews then initiated an interior fire attack. The fire was declared under control at 8:29 p.m.

Pincus says the main apartment that caught fire sustained heavy damage and a second apartment was also damaged. Initial damage reports for both apartments is estimated to be approximately $100,000.

Both of the damaged apartments were condemned. An additional apartment was also condemned because the utilities were terminated.

Four people, 3 adults and 1 child have been displaced by the fire. The Hampton Roads Chapter of the American Red Cross are providing lodging and vouchers for food and clothing for the family of four.

The fire currently under investigation.
