CHESAPEAKE, Va. - WAVY.com has confirmed another Virginia Beach police officer has been charged with DUI.

A police spokesperson says Officer Stephane Prevot was charged after striking a mailbox in the 1100 block of Myrtle Avenue at approximately 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Saturday morning, Harrell was walking with her dog when she came across Prevot's truck, stuck in a ditch.

"He kept gunning it," Harrell told WAVY.com. "Mud was flying everywhere. His truck came over here and hit this mailbox. It bent over, but it didn't fall."

The spokesperson says that Prevot left the scene of the collision and is also charged with Hit and Run.

"Evidently when he went to back out he was pretty bad off," Harrell said.

It is unclear if Officer Prevot submitted to a field sobriety test prior to his arrest.

Officer Prevot has been a member of the police force since January 2005. WAVY.com has learned that he is still employed with the city.

In June of 2009, Virginia Beach police officer Bryan Womble was previously convicted of drunk driving and hit and run. Officer Womble was sentenced to five days in jail, his license was suspended for 12 months, he was given a $250 fine and was ordered enroll in an alcohol safety awareness program. He is no longer with the department.
