SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - One person died and three others suffered injuries after a vehicle traveled off the road, rolled several times and struck a house Sunday morning.
Suffolk Police Department spokeswoman Debbie George said 64-year-old Freddie Anderson Davis was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after his vehicle veered off East Washington Street. His vehicle hit a ditch and flipped several times before hitting a house in the 2600 block of East Washington Street at 5:30 a.m. Sunday.
One of the passengers, 56-year-old Alvin Austin, got thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. Medics took the Davis, and the other passengers to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Davis was also charged with Driving on Suspended License (3rd offense) and Reckless Driving. George says Davis admitted to driving after consuming alcoholic beverages and advised that he was aware his license was suspended.
The accident remains under investigation.
