RICHMOND, Va. (WAVY) - Police in Richmond, Va. have arrested the suspect in the shooting death of two brothers, which began as an argument over the suspect failing to clean up dog waste.
Richmond police said 20-year-old Randy Trent turned himself in Thursday night. A neighbor who's spoken with Trent said he was very distraught and crying, as are the family members of the two victims.
Ahkeem Phillips, 28, of Virginia Beach, and his 24-year-old brother Ahmad Phillips were both shot in the head.
Ahkeem was visiting his younger brother at his apartment off Stockton Street Wednesday when they got into an argument with one of Ahmad's neighbors.
According to police, the suspect's dog went to the bathroom in the hall, and he didn't clean it up.
"The dog poop was going from one door back in front of the other door... It all appeared to be just behind dog poop," said one neighbor.
Tensions apparently escalated, resulting in the shooting. Ahkeem died in the lobby. Ahmad was taken to VCU Medical Center, where he later died.
Trent is charged with conspiracy to commit second degree murder for now, but police said other charges are pending.
