VIRGINIA BEACH,Va - In order to facilitate the cleanup process of yard debris following last week’s nor’easter, city waste management trucks normally used for bulky item pickup will be used for curbside collection of this debris. Because of this, Waste Management will be temporarily unable to accept bulky item requests.
Crews will work the trucks for yard debris cleanup this Saturday, Nov. 21 and Monday, Nov. 23, as well as next Saturday, Nov. 28 and Monday, Nov. 30. Bulky item pickup service will resume as soon as possible and will be announced by the city and Public Works.
With the amount of storm debris and the increased quantities from the leaf season, the amount of yard debris will be considerably above normal and may take two to three weeks to collect.
Residents may place yard debris at curbside for collection by the city as follows: Tree limbs should be no more than 4 feet long and 6 inches in diameter and placed in piles not to exceed 4 by 4 by 4 feet. Smaller debris should be placed in securely- tied clear plastic bags and not exceed 25 pounds per bag. A work order is not required for curbside collection of yard debris.
Tree removal debris is not collected at the curbside, however residents may request that it be collected through the Yard Debris Container Program, provided each piece is no larger than 6 inches in diameter and fits totally within the container.
Please note that any work done by private contractors must be disposed of by the contractor.
Residents are urged to place yard debris, as well as waste and recycle containers, outside of the drainage flow line (a few inches away from the curb) to keep the drainage flow line clear and avoid neighborhood flooding.
