WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) - Organizers announced the date for the inaugural 'Run For The Dream' race through the Colonial Williamsburg area on Tuesday.

The half-marathon and an 8K walk/run will be held on May 21st and 22nd of 2011.

Dave McGillivray, who has served as director of the Boston Marathon for the past 22 years, will serve as race director.

"They will run down the Duke of Gloucester Street, which we don't open for this purpose generally. And they will run down the Colonial Parkway which they don't close for this purpose generally," said Colin Campbell, President of Colonial Williamsburg.

The race will benefit the Achievable Dream Academy as well as the Wounded Warrior project.

Officials also hope it will draw tourists to the area during an otherwise light time of year.

"When people come to Williamsburg, when they come to the historic triangle, when they recognize what it has available, then they say, 'Why haven't we done this before? Why haven't I come for a longer visit?' That's what will happen," said Campbell. "I'm sure of it."

The 'Run For The Dream' website will be available next week for runners who wish to register. The first 3000 participants to sign up will receive free passes to Busch Gardens.
