NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - A federal judge in Norfolk has rescheduled a trial for five Somali nationals on piracy and plundering charges related to an alleged attack on a U.S. Navy ship.
Citing the complex nature of the case, U.S. District Judge Mark S. Davis on Thursday scheduled a Sept. 8 trial in Norfolk. A trial had been previously scheduled for July.
The five defendants are accused of attacking a Norfolk-based frigate, the USS Nicholas, on March 31 off the coast of Africa.
Six other Somali piracy suspects are accused in a separate attack, in April, on the USS Ashland. Their trial is scheduled to start Oct. 19.
All 11 defendants face life terms if convicted on the piracy charge.
