VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Help is on the way for people who have Chinese drywall. That's what Congressman Glenn Nye told WAVY.com Saturday. Nye met up with residents affected by the drywall.

Three years ago, the Heischober's moved into what thought was their dream home on 80th Street in Virginia Beach, but the house has brought nothing but nightmares.

"I'm very unhappy over this situation," said Steve Heischober. "Something needs be done and we need some help."

The Heischober's house was built with Chinese drywall. The same drywall that has created problems for home owners across the country.

"It's overwhelming," said Elizabeth Heischober. "It's very depressing. It consumes your whole life now, because you got to deal with this problem."

Their air conditioning has been replaced three times, because the coils have been ruined. Not to mention, they have a rotten egg smell inside. It would cost $200,000 to take out the drywall; money out of their own pocket.

Saturday, Congressman Nye got a first hand look at a couple homes with the drywall. One of those was the Heischober's.

"It happened through no fault of your own," said Nye to Steve Heischober. "It's something we are going to help you get some resolution on."

Nye says he has legislation proposed to speed up the process to get money for those affected.

"It's just sort of a very rotten smell," added Nye. "I smelled it right away and I don't think this is something you can get use to."

Nye plans to take what saw and smelled back to Washington. The residents hope help will soon follow. Many of the families Nye spoke with Saturday will also be traveling to Washington this Thursday to discuss the issue with other members of Congress.
