SUFFOLK, Va, - Two Suffolk parents have been arrested and charged in their infant daughter's death. On Monday, Linwood Jones Jr. and Shawntay D. Jones, both 25, were arrested and charged with one count each of Murder.
The couple had been under investigation because of an incident stemming back to December 1, when 11-month-old Zanya K. Jones was found dead in the 600 blk. of Third Avenue at around 3:30 p.m. Investigators who interviewed the parents say the child hadn't been checked on for eight hours.
The medical examiner determined that Zanya died of dehydration and malnutrition due to medical and nutritional neglect.
Child Protective Services removed two other children, ages three and four, from the home.
Police tell WAVY.com, the children were living in unsanitary conditions, which prompted the initial charges of Felony Abuse and Neglect of Children.
Both parents are being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond.
