NORFOLK, Va. - Governot-elect McDonnell has three planned stops on Monday, two in Norfolk and one in Virginia Beach.
At Norfolk's Chrysler Museum of Art Sunday, it was a night of support and smiles for Governor-Elect Bob McDonnell.
Surrounding the soon-to-be Governor were many of the people who chose him to lead the state. McDonnell is six days away from taking office as the 71st Governor and his vision for the Commonwealth's future is clear.
"In the short run that means more focus on small business development, and tax credits," McDonnell told WAVY.com, "In the long run we won't be able to create opportunities for Hampton Roads if we can't do something about roads."
McDonnell should be familiar with local transportation woes. He's a Virginia Beach native and the Hampton Roads region is on his radar; not just for roads but also for people who are currently looking for jobs or soon will be.
"My top priority is jobs first and to take up the detailed transportation proposals I made, getting a high speed rail connection to the southside in addition to getting the tunnels safe and improved and expanding [interstate] 64."
All are missions that require money, which is tough considering McDonnell is walking into a major budget shortfall and extensive cutbacks from the Kaine administration.
Still, the jobs, he said, must be done.
"What people want is for me to do more with less, because that's what they're doing in their business and in their family and that's what they expect me to do with government."
On Monday, McDonnell will make the following stops:
10 a.m. -- McDonnell visits with military families at the Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story .
11:30 a.m. -- McDonnell visits USO of Hampton Roads at the Little Creek Division.
1:00 p.m. -- McDonnell volunteers are at the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia , Norfolk.
4 p.m. -- McDonnell and NFL Hall of Famer Bruce Smith hold youth outreach event, Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern Virginia , Virginia Beach
