RICHMOND (AP) - The state Department of Education and Virginia Commonwealth University are launching a center that will provide research, professional development and other assistance for schools to teach students with autism.
The Center for Excellence for Autism Spectrum Disorders involves a collaboration among the state education agency and VCU's schools of education and medicine. It is being funded by a $1.3 million state grant.
One of the center's first projects will be to assist the education department in expanding access to behavior analysts who can train and help teachers and others who work with students with autism.
