A four-year old Virginia Beach boy was honored Tuesday at City Hall for his life saving efforts involving his mother.

Kyle Sparks, accompanied by his parents Lee and Melanie, was honored by Virginia Beach Mayor William D. Sessoms, Jr. in Virginia Beach City Council chambers with the United States Lifesaving Association Award.

It was around 7:00 p.m. on September 7th when Kyle's mother Melanie experienced a seizure, falling to the floor of her kitchen.

Immediately upon seeing the incident, Kyle called his father Lee via his mother's cell phone and said "Mommy has headache!" According to his parents, Kyle had memorized his father's phone number approximately nine months earlier when they had practiced with Kyle and taught him what to do in the event his mother went into a seizure.

Kyle told his father, who was in Richmond, that his mother was breathing. He then tried, on instructions from his father, to call his grandmother.  Unfortunately her phone was busy.

In the meantime, Kyle's father called the Virginia Beach Emergency Communication Center, who sent an ambulance and crew to attend to Melanie's health needs.

Due to his bravery, clear thinking, and actions in a crisis, Kyle's mom leads a busy, productive and healthy life - and Kyle is an official "Virginia Beach Lifesaver."
