PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Food allergies can be deadly with young children.

There are several common foods that can cause allergies. The most common food allergies are to milk, egg, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, fish, shellfish and soy.  Severe reactions and even death may occur when kids accidentally ingest allergen-containing foods. After the diagnosis of a food allergy, parents must always be prepared to take emergency action.

Childrens Hospital of the King's Daughter Pediatric Immunologist and Allergist, Dr. Kelly Maples, was in the WAVY studio on Tuesday, January 26 to answer viewers' food allergy questions. Watch the attached video report to view the Midday interview.
