A few simple steps to help conserve energy in your home can end up saving you big bucks.

Readers Digest is introducing a new magazine, Dollar Savvy, to help readers do just that.

"All the little things, exactly how to do them, that over time can save you ten dollars a day, fifty to a hundred dollars a week, thousands a year," explains editor-in-chief Neil Wertheimer.

Did you know that the type of shoe you wear while driving affects your gas mileage?

If you wear a heavy or hard soled shoe, you tend to push your gas pedal harder.

Another way to save green and go green is to shut off electric appliances and gadgets when you're not using them.

Dollar Savvy suggests plugging the items into a power strip, and turn your strip off when you're not using it.

Wertheimer says heating food on a stovetop uses lots of energy, so use a microwave if you can.

One final tip: Keep your freezer and refrigerator full.

The cold food holds its temperature, which means the appliances will have to run less.
