NBC - A new anti-bullying website was designed to help children feel empowered. It allows them to report bullying without being seen as tattle-tales. With the assistance of a character named Lorenzo, a kind, strong, powerful lion from New York City, they learn bullying hurts and kindness is cool.
"Part of the reason why I developed the website is because I think kids really weren't reporting it," said website creator Doug Rickets.
Now an anti-bullying consultant, Doug Rickets is a former teacher and school principal. He says research shows 90 percent of students are reporting some kind of bullying or harassment between 4th and 8th grades.
Research shows to put an end to it, lessons have to start early.
Nine-year-old Harmony Golden is getting the message. "I think it's a good idea because like some kids are embarrassed to say their ideas in front of their teacher so they might just want to write it instead of saying who they actually are," said Golden.
