PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - A man repeatedly punched, cut and stabbed a woman late Monday evening during a home invasion in the 400 block of Court Street.
Jan Westerbeck with the Portsmouth Police Department says the victim reported an unknown man entered her apartment through an unlocked front door while she was in the bathroom.
The victim told police the suspect grabbed and punched her, then called her another name and demanded money.
Police say the man cut and stabbed her several times in the upper body while she told him she was not the person he was looking for.
Westerbeck says the suspect, described as a black man between the ages of 30 and 40, abruptly left the apartment.
The victim was treated at the scene for shallow lacerations and abrasions.
