SMITHFIELD, Va. (WAVY) - A Smithfield businesswoman pleaded guilty Thursday to charges of wire fraud and aggravated identity theft after she used personal information of customers to obtain loan money.
Linda T. Rowland, 60, owned the Rowland Equipment Company for more than 30 years with her husband. The company mostly sold and maintained tractors, farming equipment and power equipment; they also helped their customers with financing to buy equipment.
Rowland used these customers' personal information to obtain loans totaling nearly $2 million. The loans were made in the customers' names and she collected the money.
In all, she used the personal information of more than 30 people to obtain more than 80 loans.
