NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - One man was hit in the face with a rock during a fight sparked by a rumor, according to police.

Holly McPherson with the Newport News Police Department said the victim was visiting his sister in the 500 block of Coral Key Place when he got into an argument with Jordan Alexander Norvell around 12:30 p.m. Friday.

According to police, Norvell approached the victim about the victim talking about Norvell behind his back. The victim said Norvell attempted to hit him with his fist but missed and then ‘struck the victim in the face with a large rock.’

The victim suffered a laceration to the lip and one of his teeth was knocked out, McPherson told WAVY.com

Norvell was arrested Tuesday and charged with malicious wounding.
