Police ID teen killed in Newport News

Victim was staying with relatives

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Police say an 18-year-old shot in the face, back and arm late Tuesday afternoon has been pronounced dead.

According to Lou Thurston with the Newport News Police Department, a call for a gunshots came in at 5:08 p.m. in the 600 block of Arbor Court. It was upgraded to a shooting while officers were en route to the call.

Thurston says police arrived and found the victim lying close to a wooded area close to the back of a home with multiple gunshot wounds to the face, back and arm. The victim was taken to the hospital with possible life-threatening injuries and passed away at approximately 7 p.m.

Wednesday, Thurston identified the victim as Malik Nigel Lewis, 18, of Warwick, New York. Thurston added Lewis was staying with relatives in Newport News.

Residents report seeing three to five men in the area during the time of the incident and heard four to six shots. If you have information on this incident, contact Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
