NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A man who reportedly led troopers on a chase spanning many cities and counties in July has been indicted for three armed robberies.

U.S. Attorney Neil H. MacBride said Christian Lamont Johnson, 23, of Hampton was indicted by a federal jury Thursday on three counts of robbery and two counts of carrying a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

According to the indictment, Johnson committed three robberies between June 21 and July 3, including a check-cashing business in Norfolk and two 7-Eleven robberies in Chesapeake and Hampton. MacBride said Johnson allegedly obtained $1,850 from the robberies.

Johnson was apprehended July 3 after allegedly leading troopers on a chase throughout several Hampton Roads cities and counties. According to troopers, Johnson was fleeing the 7-Eleven robbery in Hampton.

The robbery charges each carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. The first firearm charge carries a five-year mandatory minimum sentence. If convicted on the second count, Johnson faces a 25-year mandatory minimum sentence.
