NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Officers in Newport News are searching for a man who tried to rob a local fast food restaurant Monday night.
Harold Eley with the Newport News Police Department said an unknown masked man entered the Kentucky Fried Chicken located at 12104 Jefferson Avenue around 9:30 p.m. and ordered the employees to the back of the store.
Before the robber could get any cash, he was startled and fled the building, Eley said.
Eley told WAVY.com detectives believe the suspect is possibly the same one responsible for a string of other robberies in the area. That suspect is known for wearing a fake beard during his robberies and tried to rob a Family Dollar in Hampton just the night before.
At this time, detectives have not confirmed it is the same suspect.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
