SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Officials say a suspect who appeared highly intoxicated and smelled of marijuana assaulted three officers when they tried to arrest him.
According to Diana Klink with the CIty of Suffolk, officers approached 19-year-old Terrell Owens and a group of others at approximately 11 p.m. Feb. 22 in the 1100 block of Cogic Square. Several people ran from the scene and police caught Owens, who "was highly intoxicated and had a strong odor of marijuana emanating" from himself.
Klink said Owens struck an officer in his throat when he was asked to put his hands above his head. Owens allegedly then grabbed another officer in a bear hug and hit another officer in the side.
Eventually, Owens was subdued and taken into custody. He was charged with three counts of gang participation, three counts of assault on police, marijuana possession, resisting arrest and drunk in public.
