NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - The sister of a murdered Newport News teen remains wanted on two counts of arson.
Fire and police were called to 34 Heritage Place on Oct. 5, 2012 to investigate a structure fire.
Investigators later identified two suspects, 18-year-old Fredrina Platt, of the 100 block of Heritage Way, and 18-year-old Derrick Waddler, of the 500 block of Gennys Way in Newport News.
Waddler was arrested on Nov. 26 on two counts of arson and one count of larceny, according to Police Spokesman Officer Harold Eley.
Platt was arrested a couple days after the fire for unrelated charges of misdemeanor disorderly conduct and felony attempted burglary. She was accused of breaking into the home of a teen she believed was involved in her brother's death. 16-year-old Ricky Platt was killed in the parking lot of the Heritage Trace Apartments on Oct. 2. The investigation into his death is ongoing.
The fire occurred in the same apartment police say Platt tried to break into, later the same day. The fire destroyed the unit.
Anyone with information on the murder of Ricky Platt or the whereabouts of Fredrina Platt is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
