NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Police say shots rang out Thursday evening while officers were serving a warrant in Newport News.

According to Harold Eley with the Newport News Police Department, the officers were serving a narcotics search warrant at a home in the 2000 block of Chestnut Avenue.

Eley said shots from inside of the home were fired as officers were trying to enter just after 7 p.m.

Officers returned fire and set up a perimeter around the home. Eley said several people were detained and a Tactical Operations Unit was on scene.

The incident was cleared just after 10 p.m.

No one was injured.
