CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - Two women who had allegedly shoplifted at a Wal-Mart led police on a chase spanning three cities Tuesday evening. Police say two children were in the car with them.

The chase began at 2448 Ring Road in Chesapeake when police received a call about shoplifters at a Wal-Mart. The suspects fled in a green minivan when Chesapeake police arrived. Once the suspects got on the interstate, the Virginia State Police got involved, according to Kelly O'Sullivan with the Chesapeake Police Department.

When the chase neared Portsmouth on Interstate 664, Portsmouth police joined the chase as well. The suspects were reportedly pursued down Route 58 toward Suffolk. The chase ended shortly after 7 p.m. at Nansemond Parkway and East Washington Street in Suffolk.

O'Sullivan says the suspects hit a VSP trooper vehicle at one point, but there was no major damage.

The children were approximately 5 and 2 years old.

Alisia Carter, 25, of Suffolk was taken into custody and charged with shoplifting, felony eluding, assault on a police officer, vandalism, child endangerment and driving on a suspended license. Her passenger, 25-year-old Ashley Riddick of Portsmouth, was charged with shoplifting and released at the scene.
