YORKTOWN, Va. (WAVY) - A local elementary school was put on lockdown while deputies searched for a burglary suspect.
According to Mike Russell with the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched for a possible burglary in the 200 block of Dare Road in York County just before 7 p.m. Thursday. Russell said a caller told dispatchers they noticed suspicious activity at the Bargain Box.
When deputies arrived, they established a perimeter around the area of the store. The store is close to Dare Elementary School, which was hosting several evening events at the time and placed on lockdown.
During a search of the Bargain Box, one man was located and arrested.
Joseph Hansford, Jr., 46, was arrested and charged with one count of burglary.
Another suspect is on the lam.
