Robbery suspect charged with assault

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Hampton Police have arrested a man officers say was responsible for a robbery at a local beauty shop Wednesday.
Cpl. Mary Shackelford with the Hampton Police Division said 44-year-old Marcus Antonio Pearson of Hampton entered the Gloria Beauty Sore in the 1900 block of East Pembroke Avenue shortly after 11:30 a.m.
There, officers say Pearson hid property belonging to the business in his waistband and was confronted by an employee as he tried to leave. Pearson assaulted the employee, Shackelford said, and was seen leaving in a vehicle heading toward Old Buckroe Road.
Pearson was arrested and charged with one count of robbery and one count of assault and battery. He was still incarcerated at the Hampton City Jail as of Thursday morning.
