PD: Woman robbed pizza delivery drivers

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Police say a woman is responsible for ordering pizza to a vacant home and robbing the delivery drivers at gunpoint.

Harold Eley with the Newport News Police Department said the incidents occurred Jan. 2 and Jan. 6 in the 1100 block of Tyler Avenue.

Jan. 2, the driver was approached by a black female standing 5’5” to 5’6” with a bandana covering her face. She brandished a handgun and stole cash, an ATM card and the pizza, Eley said.

Eley said Jan. 6, the driver was again approached by a black female, while a second suspect who stood back is believed to be male. Only cash was taken in the robbery.

"I don't know why someone would do that," said a delivery driver who did not want to reveal his identity. "It was a fairly decent neighborhood that it took place in, but it was the perfect set up for someone to commit a crime," he added.

When he got to the home, he noticed a "For Sale" sign outside.

"The house was empty until I started hearing noise from the side of the house," the driver said. "When I realized what was happening, I ran back to the car."

The driver slipped and fell and was approached by a woman wearing a bandana over her face.

"When I turned around she was up to me at gun point," he said.

He handed the woman cash before getting back in his car and leaving.

"I thought about the person that did it and just wondered what circumstances were in her life that brought her to this point," he said.

No injuries were reported in either robbery.
