ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) - State Police confirmed Tuesday two fires earlier this week are being investigated as arsons, although they are not being linked as the work of a serial arsonist.
Since Nov. 13, a serial arsonist has been responsible for at least 25 arson cases on the Eastern Shore.
The two most recent arson cases fit the description of the serial arsonist's work; all were abandoned buildings set ablaze and no one was injured.
"Twenty-seven fires is hard to believe," Accomack County resident Bill Mastyl said.
Mastyl lives close to a home off Bobtown Road that was torched Monday night.
"Fires stared by who knows who," Mastyl said. "It's hard to believe police haven't caught the person yet."
Thomas Lewis lives near another location, an old grist mill, that was deliberately set on fire Monday night off Guilford Road.
"A lady come out of the house and saw the man going in with a torch, so she called the police and the fire department and they got here before it got started," Lewis said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Virginia State Police toll-free at 1-800-582-8350 or 757-424-6820; or call the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office at 757-787-1131. There is a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in these cases
