Police investigate officer impersonator

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Police are investigating phone calls in which a man is claiming he is a Suffolk police officer, collecting money to buy books for schoolchildren.

According to Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk, the victim contacted police Monday, saying she had been contacted by a man named Bob in early January asking for donations.

The victim then contacted Suffolk police about the incident, who said the man was not a representative of their department.

The victim called Bob back and told him what police told her. Bob then told her the department wouldn't be aware of the program because he was a member of the Auxiliary Police. 

A person with a similar voice as Bob going by the name of Ben White called the victim's workplace and spoke to another employee, again asking for donations to purchase books for schoolchildren.
