Woman assaulted during home invasion

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Police say a woman was assaulted during a home invasion in Virginia Beach Tuesday.

According to Grazia Moyers with the Virginia Beach Police Department, police responded to a burglary in the 4800 block of Shore Drive at approximately 3:20 p.m.

"It's kind of scary to know that happened right next door," said neighbor Austin Leigh.

Before the sun even set, the usually busy Shore Drive got even busier Tuesday afternoon.

"There was just a huge line of cop cars and then detectives started rolling up," neighbor Garrett Wesner said.  "A police officer knocked on the door and was asking me if I had heard anything."

Wesner and his roommate Leigh could only watch as officers worked to find out what happened at the house next door.

Police say a woman living next door to Leigh and Wesner was assaulted during an apparent home invasion.

"You think that no one would do that when you are living right on Shore Drive," Wesner said. "That's a busy street. You'd think that would give you some sense of security."

The woman refused medical treatment, according to police.
