KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. (WAVY) - Police say a 16-year-old was arrested for allegedly using a pistol to fire two shots at a passing vehicle on US 158 last Friday.

According to Gary Britt with the Kill Devil Hills Police Department, a Dare County resident contacted police, saying someone had shot at his vehicle while he was driving southbound on US 158 close to Arch Street, shattering his car's back glass window.

The victim saw a man pointing what appeared to be a gun out of the backseat of an SUV and memorized the tag of the vehicle.

Police were able to track down the suspect vehicle without incident. Officers found a Walther P99 compact air pistol and arrested a 16-year-old for assault by pointing a gun, going armed to the terror of the people and injury to real property. Britt said the teen was placed under a $1,000 bond and the 19-year-old driver of the vehicle was not charged.
