SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Following an argument when he threatened to kill his former girlfriend, a Suffolk man has been arrested on charges of abduction and assault.
According to Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk, Clifton A. Artis, 36, got into an argument with his ex-girlfriend Feb. 6, choked her and threatened to kill her.
Klink said Artis then took the woman's phone from her and would not allow her to leave her residence.
The next day, the woman was able to grab her cell phone and run away when a neighbor came to her front door and Artis answered. The woman called police and Artis was arrested just after he got into an altercation with the neighbor.
Artis was arrested on charges of abduction, attempted malicious wounding and simple assault.
When police spoke with the victim that day, she had several scratches on her neck, face and part of her right eye was read.
