NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - A Pennsylvania company that supplied metal components for the Navy's Virginia-class submarines faces federal charges of defrauding the federal government of more than $1 million.

An information filed Tuesday in federal court in Philadelphia charges Fairless Hills, Pa.-based Bristol Alloys and its president and part owner, James R. Bullick, with major fraud against the U.S. government.

The information charges that Bristol Alloys supplied metal components to a Northrop-Grumman Shipbuilding subcontractor that didn't meet Navy specifications.

An information typically indicates that the defendant is cooperating with prosecutors.

Northrop Grumman's Newport News Shipyard and Groton, Conn.-based General Dynamics Electric Boat have a partnership to build Navy submarines.
