Officers assaulted during traffic stop

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Police say a 19-year-old woman assaulted two officers who pulled her over for a traffic stop.
According to Harold Eley with the Newport News Police Department, officers saw a vehicle make an unlawful stop on the highway near Menchville Road and Monarch Drive on the morning of Feb. 1.
When they pulled the driver over, they smelled marijuana. As the driver, Essence Lashae Brown was getting out of the car, she became combative and assaulted the two officers, according to Eley.
Brown has been charged with assault.
