NNPD begins manhunt for wanted suspects

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Newport News Police are asking for the public's help in locating wanted suspects and have taken out an ad in a local newspaper to accomplish the task.

"I will guarantee you that there are a lot of criminals that are headed out of town today because they know that we have probably this morning have 50-plus officers, and federal agents on the street tracking them down," Chief James Fox with the Newport News Police Department said.

One of the wanted suspects is Tyrek Allen, 19, of Newport News. Allen is accused in three separate shootings that have taken place since February, two of which occurred on the same weekend. A victim in one of the shootings died. Allen is wanted on charges of murder, three counts of malicious wounding and four counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

McPherson says 83 people have been arrested during the operation as of 1 p.m. Friday, with 87 misdemeanor charges and 32 felony charges. The operation is still ongoing.

Police are still looking for the following suspects:

  • McKenzie Bernard Crite for a probation violation involving possession of a firearm with drugs and possession of ecstasy.
  • Anthony Kareem Dunn for a probation violation involving reckless handling of a firearm, abuse and neglect and failure to report to city farm.
  • Curt Leon Heckel for credit card forgery, credit card larceny and credit card fraud.
  • Joseph Jackson, Jr. for a probation violation involving possession of cocaine.
  • Anthony William Laverie for burglary and grand larceny.
  • Eryka Daijunna Lindsey for burglary, grand larceny and possession of stolen property.
  • Carlos Emanuel Manson, Jr. for malicious wounding, robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
  • Erika Angelique Mcmillian for malicious wounding.
  • Darius Kenneth Oneal Mitchell for a direct indictment involving robbery, two counts of abduction and conspiracy.
  • Andre Marquis Monroe for malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
  • Holly Marie Reed for two counts of possession of oxycodone, two counts of utter forged prescription and two counts of obtaining drugs by fraud.
  • Rhonald Edward Smalley for malicious wounding
  • Colleen Theresa Traub for two counts of possession of oxycodone, three counts of utter forged prescription and two counts of obtaining drugs by fraud.
  • Yvette Sherie Walters for obtaining money by false pretenses , identity theft, two counts of forgery and two counts of uttering.
  • Nathan Charles Wolfe for two counts of obtaining prescription by fraud and attempt to violate the Virginia drug control act.

According to McPherson, police took out a one page ad in a local newspaper that contained the pictures of 21 wanted suspects as well as a list of other wanted suspects with outstanding felony warrants. The public is asked to take a look at the pictures and call a number on the ad if they have any information.

Lou Thurtson with NNPD told WAVY.com the money used for the ad comes from money obtained by asset forfeiture. According to Thurston, any money seized from major arrests involving local, state and federal agencies is divided among the agencies involved in the operation. The ad cost $4,000 and is not tax money or City money.

Officials from the U.S. Marshals Service, Newport News Sheriff’s Office, Hampton Police Division, York County Sheriff’s Office, James City County Police Department, Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office, Portsmouth Police Department, Naval Criminal Investigative Service, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Drug Enforcement Administration assisted the NNPD.
