NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A 19-year-old was shot in the abdomen while walking in a Newport News neighborhood Wednesday.
According to Lou Thurston with the Newport News Police Department, crews were dispatched to 21st Street and Marshall Avenue just before 3 p.m. for a shooting call.
There, they found the teen suffering from one gunshot wound in his abdomen. The victim told police he was shot while walking in the area of 18th Street and Marshall Avenue and managed to walk to the 2000 block of Marshall Avenue to seek help.
Thurston said the victim was taken to a local hospital. The extent of his injuries is unknown.
