NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A Newport News school orchestra director was indicted by a grand jury on charges of forcible sodomy and indecent liberties with a child.

The grand jury indicted John Douglas Lenwell, 44, Tuesday on the charges.

A 21-year-old victim told police he was abused by Lenwell several times in 2007 and 2008, when he was 17 and a student of Lenwell’s at Denbigh High School. A second victim reported he was abused between April and August of 2012.

Lenwell most recently taught at Dozier and Passage Middle Schools. He was suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
