NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A Grimstead man pleaded guilty on various counts of tax crime for preparing false tax returns as well as impairing and impeding the International Revenue Service.

According to Neil MacBride with the Department of Justice, 65-year-old Jeffrey Charles was found guilty Tuesday on one count of conspiracy, three counts of aiding and assisting in the preparation of false tax returns and one count of filing a false tax return.

MacBride says Charles had assisted in filing false tax returns under his daughter's name in 2000, 2001 and 2005 as well as attaching false documents to the returns. Additionally, Charles had filed a false tax return in his name in 2006, claiming he had earned a $0 income.

Charles will be sentenced Feb. 25, 2013.
