VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A Virginia Beach man who entered a birthday party and opened fire wounding two people has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
According to Macie Pridgen with the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, 36-year-old Juan H. Medley faced charged of aggravated malicious wounding, malicious wounding, two counts of use of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Pridgen said Medley entered a birthday party on the evening of Dec. 30, 2011 in the Pecan Gardens area of the Beach. Medley greeted several people, pulled out a gun and shot two people.
He was found just after the incident hiding atop a home nearby. One victim he shot had surgery and now has a metal rod in her arm. The second victim has had several surgeries and still suffers from the injuries sustained that night, according to Pridgen.
Medley was initially sentenced to 43 years in prison, but 28 years were suspended pending good behavior.
Medley's record includes several drug convictions, battery and driving without a license.
