VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A Chesapeake man has been sentenced to a total of 14 years in prison for a 2009 home invasion.

Paul King Bennett, III was originally sentenced to 52 years in prison, 39 of which were suspended pending good behavior on charges of armed robbery, armed burglary, conspiracy, use of firearm, wearing a mask and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Bennett was given one more year in prison because the 2009 home invasion occurred during a scheduled good behavior for a 2007 sentencing on charges of burglary, maliciously shooting into an occupied vehicle and petit larceny.

Additionally, Bennett has prior convictions for disorderly conduct, concealed weapon and reckless driving endangerment.

Bennett pleaded guilty Aug. 12. Macie Pridgen with the Virginia Beach Commonwealth's Attorney's Office says Bennett and two other men broken into a home on Salina Drive at 4 a.m.

While two women, Autumn Simpson and Nicole Enders, waited outside as lookouts, all three men wore masks and gloves and entered the home. A pregnant woman and her 5-year-old child were inside of the home at the time. One of the men, John Anderson, pointed a shotgun at the woman and asked for money and valuables. When the young child awoke to noise from the burglary, Anderson pointed a shotgun at her as well.

The three men got away with a television, laptop, jewelry, cell phone and a handgun.

While the men were getting back into the Jeep and Simpson hit the gas, Anderson fell out of the car and was left behind. By the time the group came back for him, a police officer was dispatched to search for a Jeep in connection with the invasion.

Simpson was sentenced to 11 years, Anderson was sentenced to seven years, Adden Slaton was sentenced to eight years and Enders was sentenced to six years.
