VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A man sentenced to 10 years in prison for a 2011 assault was also implicated in a North Carolina murder in court Tuesday.
According to Macie Pridgen with the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, 22-year-old Trey Lee Emerson pleaded guilty this summer on charges of malicious wounding and abduction in connection with a July 2011 assault of a woman.
Pridgen says Emerson approached a woman getting into her car getting ready to leave Munden Point Park in Virginia Beach. The victim said Emerson approached her with an angry look on his face, pulled her out of her car at knife point and threatened to kill her as they struggled to the ground.
Emerson then got distracted by something and fled the scene. The woman got minor scrapes and was able to get Emerson's license plate number. Emerson fled the area.
In court Tuesday, Emerson was implicated for the murder of Michael Morrissett, Jr. in July 2011 in North Carolina that happened the day before the Virginia Beach attack. Emerson confessed to shooting Morrissett with a shotgun but claimed it was an accident.
Nash County will arrange to have Emerson extradited and served with warrants relating to Morrissett's homicide at a later time, according to Harvey Bryant, Virginia Beach Commonwealth's Attorney.
After the Virginia Beach assault, his crime spree ended with a head-on collision in Currituck County.
