ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) - A Franklin man is facing charges after deputies say they found a large amount of child pornography on his computer.
According to the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received information from the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office working in conjunction with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about child pornography being traced to a home in the Franklin area.
When deputies responded to the home on Elmwood Drive, they executed a search warrant and found a large cache of child pornography. A computer and 47” monitor were also seized from the properties.
Deputies arrested Michael Alan Butzlaff, 52. He has been charged with four counts of possession of child pornography, distribution of child pornography and use of communication systems to facilitate offenses involving children.
The sheriff’s office says Butzlaff communicated with young girls over the internet, often posing as a young girl or boy in order to solicit nude images. Those victims have not been identified.
There is not evidence to suggest Butzlaff had any physical contact with any children, the sheriff’s office added.
Butzlaff is incarcerated at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
