NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A 21-year-old man is behind bars accused of brandishing a firearm as he demanded to take his children Saturday.
Holly McPherson with the Newport News Police Department told WAVY.com Antonio Tynes of Hampton went to an apartment in the 500 block of Bulkeley Place around 5:30 a.m. to take his children.
The victim, a 42-year-old female acquaintance and legal guardian of the two young boys was inside the apartment along with the children and her fiance when Tynes arrived. McPherson said Tynes brandished a handgun and threatened to kill the victim.
At some point during the incident, Tynes allegedly kicked in a bathroom door, where the victim’s fiance and the two boys were hiding. McPherson said Tynes pointed the gun at the fiance.
The three were able to escape the apartment.
According to McPherson, Tynes punched the victim several times in the head and refused to let her leave. Police later found Tynes in a locked bedroom
Tynes has been charged with two counts of abduction, four counts of brandishing a firearm, one count of misdemeanor assault, two counts of child abuse/neglect and one count of contempt of court.
