CAMDEN COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) - A Kindergarten teacher facing multiple sex charges appeared in a Camden County courtroom Friday.

According to Camden County Sheriff Tony Perry, Samuel Byers, who currently teaches at Creech Road Elementary School, was charged with five counts of felony indecent liberties with a minor and five counts of felony statutory sex offense with a minor.

The charges stem from an alleged incident that happened between December 1999 and June 2000 when Byers was employed with the Camden County School System.

Byers' Linked In profile states he has been employed by Wake County Public Schools since Aug. 2006.

Byers was given a public defender and his next court date was scheduled for September 28.

Bond was set at $1 million. He is being held in Albemarle District Jail.

The case remains under investigation. Sheriff Perry said more charges are expected.
