Inside mobile home child was caged

An exclusive look inside

GLOUCESTER, Va. (WAVY) - 10 On Your Side got an exclusive look into Shannon and Brian Gore's mobile home, where police say their 6-year-old daughter was starved and caged in her own waste.

The room she was in was a stark contrast to a baby's room next door. It had freshly painted walls and painted monkeys.

The room where police said the 6-year-old was kept had her waste smeared on the wall and stained floors so deep, even the carpeting wasn't a barrier.

"You never want to hear of any child at any time being hurt," said Connie Owens Houston.

Houston received a call to remove the home from a Gloucester mobile home park.

"They wanted the home removed so the people that lived there didn't have to look at it as they drove into their homes everyday," she said.

Outside the home, investigators said they found another child's remains underneath a shed.

Owens Houston said she knew Shannon Gore as a little girl and ran into a pregnant Shannon a few months ago.

"She was extremely excited knowing that it was a little boy," said Owens Houston.

Investigators have said that little boy was healthy.

Gore never mentioned any other children to Owens Houston.

Owens Houston said not even Brian Gore's father knew.

"Being totally and completely in the dark of this situation, it was terrible to look at that man's eyes and see the hurt," she said.

"He was just totally blind sided by this just like the rest of the community," she continued.

With the mobile home gone, Owens Houston is hoping the community can heal.
