Hospital's patient info device stolen

HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) - Officials say device holding patient information from Sentara Healthcare was stolen out of a car in November.

According to a news release from Omnicell, the company that manufactures the devices, the item was stolen out of an Omnicell employee's vehicle on the night of Nov. 14. The device has not been recovered and a police report has been filed.

The device may have held patient information such as patient names, birth dates, patient numbers and medical record numbers.

The news release states the device did not hold any medical record, social security, bank account or financial information.

The incident affected patients treated between Oct. 18, 2012 and Nov. 9, 2012 at Sentara CarePlex, Sentara Leigh Hospital, Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Sentara Obici Hospital, Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital, Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, Sentara BelleHarbour, Sentara Independence, and Sentara Port Warwick.
