CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - Police say the father of a 16-month-old girl is wanted in connection with her death, which was recently classified as a homicide.

According to Kelly O'Sullivan with the Chesapeake Police Department, police responded to the 800 block of Park Row in reference to an unresponsive toddler on the afternoon of Aug. 15, 2012. The child, Waaliyah Brown, was transported to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

O'Sullivan says Waaliyah's father, 35-year-old Floyd Logan IV of Newport News, is wanted on first-degree murder and child abuse charges following months of investigation by police. He was indicted on those charges Dec. 4.

"She was a beautiful baby inside and out," Waaliyah's mother Kiba Brown said.

Brown posted a "Justice for Waaliyah" sign outside of her home, clinging to memories of her young daughter.

"I've been saying since she's been gone, she took a piece of my heart," Brown said.  "I'm never going to be the same."

Brown says the pain isn't going away, but what would will help is finding the person responsible.

"Being a father, if you had any type of feeling for her, give her your peace and just turn yourself in." Brown said, addressing Logan.

Logan's last known address was in the 2200 block of Jefferson Avenue.

WAVY.com uncovered Logan's criminal history, which includes a domestic aggravated battery charge in 2001 and a domestic battery charge in 2002 in Florida.
