HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - A man notorious for donning fake facial hair and robbing dollar stores and auto parts shops on the Peninsula has struck again, according to police.
Since Nov. 6, 2011, an unknown black male has robbed about two dozen businesses between Hampton and Newport News. His disguise of choice is a fake beard while his targets include dollar stores, fast food restaurants and auto parts stores.
Sunday night, the suspect entered the Family Dollar located in the 900 block of Aberdeen Road in Hampton around 9:30 p.m. and demanded money from the clerks at gunpoint. This time, he wasn’t successful in obtaining any cash.
Sgt. Jason Price with the Hampton Police Division said two employees of the business ran toward the back of the store and the suspect fled on foot.
At the time of Sunday’s robbery, the suspect was wearing a teal t-shirt, dark pants, black shoes, brown gloves and a dark hat. He was also wearing his usual fake beard. The suspect stands about 5’7” and has a heavy build.
