NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - In court Wednesday, a Norfolk judge sent a Rite Aid murder case to trial.
Bernell Benn is charged in the August 2012 shooting death of Ramon Colorado inside of a Rite Aid drug store off Tidewater Drive. An argument between the two men ended in gunfire after a dispute over line-cutting.
During a preliminary hearing in General District Court Wednesday, a customer recalled hearing words between the two men, seeing Benn with a gun and hearing several shots. A store surveillance video of the encounter was played before a judge, who certified the second degree murder charge against Benn to a grand jury.
Benn, now free on bond, could face between five and 20 years in prison if convicted.
